WALDORF, Md. — Heartbreak has struck the Waldorf community following a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning that claimed the life of 31-year-old Charles Arlando Hamilton and left another victim fighting for their life.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched at 12:14 a.m. on October 29 to the 2000 block of Smallwood Drive after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot.
Despite efforts from first responders, Charles Hamilton was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition.
Investigators say an unknown suspect fired multiple shots outside a vehicle before fleeing the area. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and collecting evidence as they work to piece together the events that led to the tragedy.
“This was a senseless act that took a young man’s life and left another gravely injured,” a department spokesperson said. “Our detectives are working around the clock to bring those responsible to justice.”
Friends and family of Charles Hamilton are devastated by the news, describing him as a warm, loyal, and kindhearted man who always carried a smile and showed love to those around him. Social media has filled with tributes remembering his spirit and the joy he brought to his loved ones.
