OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Overland Park community is mourning the loss of 68-year-old Janet Dam, who tragically lost her life in a fatal pedestrian accident early Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025.

According to the Overland Park Police Department, the crash occurred around 3:29 a.m. on Goddard Street, just west of Switzer Road. Investigators say a vehicle traveling eastbound struck a parked car, then continued forward before hitting a pedestrian—later identified as Janet—who was walking along the edge of the roadway. The vehicle eventually came to rest after colliding with a tree.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but sadly, Janet was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

Janet, a resident of Overland Park, was known in her neighborhood for her early morning walks. Friends describe her as kind, gentle, and full of quiet strength—a woman who found peace in the simple rhythms of daily life. Her presence brought warmth to those who crossed her path, and her passing has left a deep ache in the hearts of those who knew her.

Her family has requested privacy as they grieve this unimaginable loss, asking the community to remember Janet for the love and light she shared during her life.
