KENORA, Ontario — The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have confirmed the death of 21-year-old Mekhi Pelly Scott, a young man from Grassy Narrows First Nation, who was reported missing in Kenora in late October. Mekhi was last seen between October 10 and October 12 and officially reported missing on October 26. Authorities have emphasized that foul play could not initially be ruled out.
Although Mekhi’s remains have not yet been recovered, the OPP, along with the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team, Treaty Three Police Service, Kenora Makwa Patrol, and local volunteers, continue the search. Police are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward. In connection with the case, 24-year-old Terry Cherry, a Kenora resident, has been arrested and charged with committing an indignity to a dead body. The charges are still pending court proceedings.
