McCALLA, Ala. — The McCalla community is heartbroken following the tragic death of 19-year-old Adrian Derandre’ Hunter, who lost his life in a devastating vehicle accident on Interstate 459 Wednesday morning.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the crash happened around 11:36 a.m. near the U.S. Highway 31 exit in Hoover. Authorities say two vehicles were traveling southbound when they made contact, causing Hunter’s vehicle to overturn. Emergency responders from the Hoover Police and Fire Departments rushed to the scene and transported both drivers to UAB Hospital for treatment.

Despite all lifesaving efforts, Hunter was pronounced deceased at 12:19 p.m., surrounded by medical staff who fought to save him. The condition of the other driver remains undisclosed.

Hoover Police Captain Keith Czeskleba stated that investigators are still working to determine what caused the vehicles to collide. Crash reconstruction experts are reviewing roadway evidence, vehicle damage, and possible surveillance footage to piece together exactly what happened.

The news of Hunter’s passing has sent waves of grief through McCalla, a close-knit community now mourning the loss of a young man described by many as kindhearted, ambitious, and full of life. Friends and classmates have taken to social media to share memories, calling him a “bright soul” with “a smile that could light up any room.”

“He had such a good spirit,” one friend wrote. “It doesn’t feel real that he’s gone.”
