Gone too soon, forever remembered in Stacy, North Carolina

The Stacy community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Timothy Glenn Gaskill Jr., whose life ended tragically on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, following a law enforcement encounter at his home on U.S. Highway 70.

Timothy, who was  known to his friends and neighbors as a kind-hearted and spirited individual, was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis when deputies from the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office were called to assist. Despite hours of attempted negotiation and efforts to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution, the confrontation ended in tragedy when Timothy was fatally shot inside his residence. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, leaving behind a community filled with grief and unanswered questions.

Authorities confirmed that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is now leading an independent investigation into the incident. Family and friends are hoping that the full details of what happened will bring understanding and peace in the days ahead.
