North Branch, Michigan Mourns the Loss of Steven Henderson

IMLAY CITY, Mich. — The tight-knit community of North Branch, Michigan, is grieving the tragic death of 49-year-old Steven Henderson, who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on M-53 (Van Dyke) near Muck Road in Goodland Township, Lapeer County, on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

According to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene around 4:00 p.m. after reports of a serious traffic accident. Investigators determined that Henderson was driving southbound in a 2023 Kia K5 along a curved section of M-53 when his vehicle departed the roadway, entered a ditch, struck an embankment, became airborne, and rolled before coming to rest on its tires.

Tragically, Henderson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. A passing motorist immediately performed CPR while calling 911, but despite those efforts, Henderson succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Emergency response teams at the scene included the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, Imlay City Police Department, Goodland Township Fire Department, Lapeer County EMS, Metamora Township Police Drone Division, and the Lapeer County Reconstruction Team. Van Dyke was closed for approximately three hours to allow for investigation and cleanup.

The crash remains under active investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or excessive speed contributed to the fatal accident.

Steven Henderson is remembered by his family, friends, and neighbors in North Branch as a kind, caring, and beloved member of the community. His sudden passing has left the town in mourning, as those who knew him reflect on the warmth, generosity, and positive impact he brought into their lives.

“North Branch has lost a truly wonderful person,” said a local resident. “Steven was always there for others, and his absence leaves a hole in all our hearts.”

A Celebration of Life service will be announced by the family at a later date, as the community comes together to honor and remember Henderson’s life.
