CHICAGO, Ill  — The city of Chicago is mourning the tragic loss of 17-year-old Rodrigo Franco, who was senselessly shot and killed while working at a Burger King on the Southwest Side Sunday evening.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting took place just after 7 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Pulaski Road. Rodrigo was inside the restaurant performing his duties when someone in a Jeep pulled up and fired multiple shots toward the building.

One of the bullets struck Rodrigo in the head. He was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where doctors did everything they could to save him. Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police confirmed that the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction, and no arrests have been made. Authorities are asking anyone with information to submit an anonymous tip through cpdtip.com as the investigation continues.

On Monday morning, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Rodrigo Franco, a hardworking and caring young man whose life was taken far too soon.

Rodrigo’s mother spoke with WGN News, sharing the heartbreak of losing her son. She described him as a gentle and loving teenager who adored soccer, enjoyed playing video games, and cherished morning coffee with her. Those quiet moments, she said, were some of her most treasured memories.

Rodrigo was known for his kind heart, his positive attitude, and his determination to help his family. Friends and loved ones say he always had a smile on his face and was deeply loved by everyone who knew him.

His untimely death has left his family and community in deep sorrow, mourning the loss of a promising young man whose life was just beginning.
