It is with profound sadness that the community of Riviera Beach, Florida, mourns the heartbreaking loss of 16-year-old Lindy Douglas, who tragically passed away following a devastating crash on West Blue Heron Boulevard on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Riviera Beach Police Department, Lindy was riding a small, non-street-legal mini bike with her close friend, 17-year-old Joell Banks of Loxahatchee, when the accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Investigators say Lindy was operating the mini bike when, for reasons still unknown, it veered into the path of an oncoming Nissan Sentra traveling westbound. The collision’s impact threw both teens from the bike, and emergency personnel rushed to their aid.

Both were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, but tragically, Lindy succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon. Joell survived the crash with minor injuries and is expected to recover. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police reported that neither Lindy nor Joell was wearing a helmet at the time, and the bike was not approved for use on public roads.

Lindy’s sudden and tragic passing has left her family, friends, and the entire Riviera Beach community heartbroken. She was known for her bright smile, loving spirit, and adventurous nature — a young soul full of energy and dreams. Those who knew her remember her as a kind-hearted and joyful person who loved spending time outdoors, riding bikes, and laughing with friends.

As her loved ones gather to honor her memory, candlelight vigils and tributes are being planned in her honor. Her family described Lindy as a beautiful, free-spirited young woman whose warmth and positivity touched everyone she met. Though her time on earth was far too short, her light continues to shine in the hearts of those who love her.

The Riviera Beach Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Meanwhile, the community stands united in grief and remembrance, praying for comfort for Lindy’s family and healing for Joell.

Gone too soon, but never forgotten — Lindy Douglas will forever be remembered for the love she shared, the laughter she brought, and the beautiful soul she was.
