The Middletown community is mourning the tragic loss of Jozef Baran, who passed away following a fatal crash on the Arrigoni Bridge on November 11, 2025, at approximately 8:43 p.m.
According to authorities, Jozef was driving westbound in his red Subaru when his vehicle collided head-on with another car on the Portland side of the bridge. Despite the swift response from emergency personnel, he sadly died at the scene from his injuries.
Jozef, born on March 19, 1955, was known by many for his warm heart, strong work ethic, and unwavering kindness. Friends and neighbors remember him as someone who was always willing to lend a hand and who carried himself with humility and compassion.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and friendship within his community. Those who knew Jozef describe him as a man who valued family above all else and who lived his life with integrity and quiet strength.
The driver of the other vehicle, identified as Angela Grammatico, 31, of Portland, was transported to Hartford Hospital with injuries.
