In Loving Memory of Boynton Woodrow O’Brien

HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. — The Hampton County community is mourning the tragic loss of 51-year-old Boynton Woodrow O’Brien, who was fatally shot in a heartbreaking incident on Altman Road near Whippy Swamp Bridge on November 4, 2025.

According to the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire early Tuesday and discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the swift arrival of first responders, Boynton O’Brien was pronounced deceased at the scene by Hampton County EMS. The second victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Crime Scene Unit is assisting the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation. Authorities have described the shooting as an isolated incident, confirming there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Hampton County Coroner Anna Fields worked closely with investigators to ensure that all procedures were carried out with care and professionalism. She has since notified O’Brien’s family, who are now left grieving the loss of a beloved son, friend, and community member.

Sheriff Anthony Russell and the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office extended their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. O’Brien, sharing in the sorrow felt throughout the community. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the O’Brien family during this difficult time,” the Sheriff said in a statement.
