RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond community is mourning the tragic loss of 21-year-old Alexander Norton of North Chesterfield, who lost his life in a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon on South Belvidere Street.
According to the Richmond Police Department Crash Team, officers responded to the intersection of South Belvidere and Spring Streets at approximately 3:59 p.m. for a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV. When emergency crews arrived, they found Norton critically injured. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators say Norton was traveling on Spring Street and reportedly disregarded a red traffic signal as he attempted to turn left onto South Belvidere Street. At that same moment, a southbound SUV was entering the intersection, also turning left. The two vehicles collided with tremendous force.
The driver of the SUV, an adult male, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. He was not injured. At this time, no charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation by the RPD Crash Team.
Friends and family are devastated by the sudden loss of Alexander, remembering him as a bright, compassionate young man with a love for adventure and a caring heart. Those who knew him say he was full of life, always smiling, and quick to offer help to anyone who needed it. His passion for motorcycles reflected his free spirit and determination to live life fully.
“Alex had such a big heart,” one friend shared. “He was the kind of person who would drop everything to help you. Losing him this way is just unimaginable.”
The Richmond Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact Investigator D. Peppel at (804) 646-1042, or call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the P3 Tips app.
