SKY VALLEY, Calif. — The Desert Hot Springs community is grieving the tragic loss of 33-year-old Ruben Delgado, a local resident who died after a collision with a trash truck earlier this week. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office confirmed Delgado’s identity. The crash occurred around 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday along Dillon Road, just west of Prospect Road.
According to preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Delgado was traveling westbound on his Yamaha motorcycle when a trash truck, heading eastbound, attempted a left turn and struck his motorcycle. Emergency responders quickly transported Delgado to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, but he was later pronounced deceased. The truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities.
Authorities confirmed that no other injuries were reported, and early findings indicate that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash. CHP’s collision reconstruction team is reviewing vehicle positions, skid marks, and witness statements to determine the sequence of events. Officer David Torres noted that the timing of the truck’s turn and vehicle speed may have been significant contributing factors.
Friends, neighbors, and fellow residents of Desert Hot Springs expressed profound sadness over Delgado’s death, remembering him as a kind and caring individual whose presence impacted everyone around him. Many have called for increased safety measures along Dillon Road, including better signage, improved lighting, and clearer turn lanes to prevent similar tragedies.
Motorcycle safety advocates remind riders to always wear proper safety gear, remain vigilant at intersections, and anticipate the movements of larger vehicles. Drivers are also encouraged to double-check blind spots and exercise caution when turning, especially on roads with limited visibility.
The CHP encourages anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact their Indio area office. Authorities extended condolences to Ruben Delgado’s family and friends, acknowledging the devastating impact of his sudden loss.
As the investigation continues, additional details will be released regarding the full circumstances surrounding the crash and any potential legal actions. Delgado’s passing is a stark reminder of the importance of safety and awareness for all road users in Riverside County.
