HOMICIDE: Man Shot and Killed After Breaking Into South Tulsa Apartment

SOUTH TULSA — A South Tulsa neighborhood was rocked late Friday night after a man was shot and killed during what authorities say was a reported break-in at an apartment complex.

Around 11:50 p.m. on October 31, 2025, Tulsa Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at the Crossing at Silver Oaks Apartments, located near 71st Street and Yale Avenue. Witnesses told dispatchers that they heard approximately 20 gunshots, followed by seeing a man lying on the ground with a gun nearby.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 20-year-old Jamond Silas deceased in front of the apartment doors. The scene was described as chaotic, with neighbors in shock over the loud gunfire late at night.

According to police reports, a man at the scene came forward and admitted to firing the shots. The man told investigators that he had been inside his apartment when Silas forcibly entered by kicking in the door. He said he fired at Silas in self-defense.

Tulsa Police questioned the man and released him pending further investigation. Authorities stressed that all details and evidence from the scene will be submitted to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether any charges are warranted.
