ATLANTA, Ga. — A tragic domestic situation turned deadly early Thursday morning, October 30, when a father allegedly shot and killed his own son in the parking lot of a Buckhead apartment complex. The shocking incident unfolded after police were called to defuse a dispute between the son and his girlfriend.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded around 12:20 a.m. to the 50 block of Pharr Avenue after a woman called 911 reporting a domestic dispute with her boyfriend. When police arrived, they began speaking separately with the man and woman involved.

Moments later, the boyfriend went outside to the parking lot, where his 54-year-old father, Durante Tolliver, had just arrived on the scene. Investigators say that an argument erupted between the two men, quickly escalating into violence. Witnesses and police reported hearing at least five gunshots.

Officers rushed to the parking lot and found the 32-year-old son suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe that the dispute between father and son turned heated before Tolliver pulled out a firearm and opened fire. Tolliver was taken into custody without further incident and has since been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Neighbors described the terrifying moments after the shooting. One woman who lives in the complex said she heard multiple gunshots ring out in the night and rushed outside to see police already on scene. “It was chaos,” she said. “You could feel the tension and confusion — no one could believe what just happened.”

Authorities have not yet released the name of the son or his girlfriend. Early reports suggested the girlfriend might have been affiliated with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, but the agency later clarified she is not an employee.

Police continue to investigate what led to the deadly confrontation between father and son — a tragedy that has left the Buckhead community shaken and a family torn apart.
