AUGUSTA, Ga  — The Augusta community is mourning the tragic loss of 28-year-old Deunte Myers, who passed away following a shooting early Tuesday morning on Deen Avenue.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 2700 block of Deen Avenue around 7:35 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Myers suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Wellstar MCG Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced deceased at 8:13 a.m., as confirmed by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities later identified 21-year-old Tyrese Artavious Wesby as a suspect in the case. After an extensive search, Wesby was taken into custody in connection with Myers’ death. Investigators say he was known to drive a black Chevrolet Tahoe with Georgia tag SJV2970.

Law enforcement officials remained at the scene throughout the morning, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence as part of the ongoing homicide investigation. Members of the Richmond County Marshal’s Office also responded to assist deputies.

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been released, and investigators continue to gather details surrounding the tragic incident.

Deunte Myers is being remembered as a kind-hearted young man whose life was cut short far too soon. His family, friends, and neighbors are heartbroken, reflecting on the positive energy and love he brought to those around him.

“Our hearts are shattered,” a close family friend shared. “Deunte was full of life — he had dreams, goals, and people who loved him deeply. We just can’t believe he’s gone.”

As the investigation continues, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office extends condolences to Myers’ loved ones, urging anyone with information to come forward and help bring full justice to his family.
