NORTH PRESTON, N.S. — The community of North Preston is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 28-year-old Jayden Tynes, who was tragically killed in a shooting on Saturday evening.

According to the RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Cain Street and Clarence Street around 4:58 p.m. on November 2. When police and paramedics arrived, they found Jayden suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital by Emergency Health Services (EHS), but despite all lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The RCMP/HRP Integrated Major Crime Unit has taken the lead in the investigation, with assistance from the Integrated General Investigative Section, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

Investigators are urging anyone with information, or with dashcam footage from the area of Cain Street and Clarence Street between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., to contact the RCMP/HRP Integrated Major Crime Unit at 902-490-5333. News of Jayden’s passing has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken. Those who knew him describe Jayden as a kind, respectful, and loyal young man whose smile could light up any room. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his absence has left an unfillable void in their lives.

As the community grapples with this senseless act of violence, many are coming together to honor Jayden’s memory  sharing stories, photos, and messages of love in remembrance of his life.

Rest in peace, dear Jayden Tynes. Your warmth, laughter, and love will never be forgotten. Though you were taken too soon, your spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
