ALCOA, Tenn. — The Alcoa community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of James Brooks, 36, of Maryville, who tragically died in a single-vehicle crash on Hall Road Monday afternoon. Brooks was traveling north near Fulton Street when his truck left the roadway, struck a tree in the median, and came to rest in the northbound lanes. First responders found him unresponsive at the scene. He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
James Brooks wasn’t just a tow operator—he was a pillar of the community and a brother to many in the towing industry. “Some of our community may not know, but yesterday afternoon we lost one of our own,” colleagues shared. Brooks spent his life helping others, whether out on the road assisting stranded drivers or lending a hand to friends in need. He had a rare combination of heart, grit, and loyalty, always showing up when others wouldn’t and finding a way to make even the toughest days lighter with a joke or smile.
“Our hearts are with his family, friends, and everyone who had the honor of knowing and working beside him,” the statement continued. “The road feels emptier without him, but his legacy will ride on in every tow, every rescue, and every operator who straps down and rolls out to help someone in need. He towed with honor, served with pride, and left the world a little safer. Rest easy, brother. We got the chains from here — you ride high on that mountain now.”
The Alcoa Police Department is actively investigating the crash and asks anyone with information to contact Lieutenant Daniel Brooks at 865-981-4111.
James Brooks’ sudden death has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the broader Alcoa community. Yet his courage, dedication, and unwavering generosity continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will live on in the countless acts of service and kindness he brought to others, ensuring that the road—and the world—remains brighter because of him.
