BILLINGSLEY, Ala. — The Billingsley community is mourning the tragic loss of Jessica Fortenberry, 54, who died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on Nov. 3 on Chilton County 37 near Chilton County 76, just southwest of Clanton.

Jessica was a passenger in a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country van when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Authorities confirmed that she was not wearing a seat belt, which contributed to her being ejected from the vehicle. Despite the prompt response of emergency personnel, Jessica was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the van, 57-year-old Jaynell M. Peters of Thorsby, sustained injuries and was transported to University of Birmingham Hospital for treatment. Officials have not disclosed the extent of Peters’ injuries but confirmed she is receiving care.

Capt. Jeremy Burkett, spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, emphasized the ongoing investigation into the crash, which includes examining road conditions, vehicle speed, and other potential factors. Authorities also reminded the public of the critical importance of seat belt use, noting that safety restraints save lives and reduce the risk of fatal injuries.

Jessica was remembered by family, friends, and neighbors as a long-time resident of Billingsley with deep ties to her community. Those who knew her described her as a kind, warm, and caring individual, whose presence brought comfort and joy to the people around her. Her sudden passing has left a profound void in the hearts of her loved ones and the wider community.

The crash temporarily impacted traffic while investigators documented the scene and collected evidence. ALEA officials urged drivers to remain cautious, especially during early morning hours or in low-visibility conditions, to help prevent similar tragedies.

Jessica Fortenberry will be remembered for her life, her warmth, and the impact she had on everyone who knew her. The community of Billingsley extends its deepest condolences to her family during this difficult time, honoring her memory and the legacy she leaves behind.

Rest in Peace, Jessica Fortenberry

Forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
