HARTSHORNE, Okla. — The Hartshorne community is mourning the heartbreaking deaths of Jim McCoy, Clint Lawrence, and volunteer Justin Faulkner, who lost their lives in separate incidents during the H-Town Throw Down over the weekend, according to McAlester/Pittsburg County Emergency Management.
Jim McCoy served as the chief of the Alderson Fire Department for eight years and was widely respected for his leadership and dedication to public safety. Clint Lawrence, an officer with the Haileyville Police Department, had recently completed his CLEET Academy training and was recognized as a rising member of the local law enforcement community. Both men were involved in a crash on Saturday during the event, which resulted in their untimely deaths.
The third tragedy occurred on Friday evening during the event’s setup, when Justin Faulkner, a longtime volunteer, passed away. Faulkner had been known for his dedication to supporting local events and serving the community, and his loss was felt deeply by organizers and residents alike.
Leonard Baughman, director of McAlester/Pittsburg County Emergency Management, expressed profound sorrow, stating, “Our hearts are broken for the families, friends, and fellow responders affected by this unimaginable loss. These individuals gave themselves in service to our community, and their sacrifice will be felt across all of Pittsburg County.”
Memorial services for the three men are being arranged separately according to the wishes of their families. In the wake of the tragedies, community leaders, emergency responders, and local residents have expressed condolences and are honoring the contributions of McCoy, Lawrence, and Faulkner.
The incidents have also prompted the launch of a GoFundMe campaign to support the families of all three men, helping them navigate the emotional and financial challenges following these losses. Community members are encouraged to contribute as a way of showing solidarity and appreciation for the service and dedication of the victims.
These tragedies highlight the risks faced by emergency responders and volunteers, even during events intended to bring the community together. McCoy, Lawrence, and Faulkner exemplified selflessness, dedication, and commitment to public service, and their contributions will be remembered and honored for years to come.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incidents. In the meantime, local leaders are encouraging the community to support one another and continue practicing safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The weekend at the H-Town Throw Down will be remembered not only for the events themselves but for the profound loss and outpouring of grief, support, and solidarity from the Hartshorne community.
Your dedication, courage, and service will never be forgotten. The community grieves with your families and honors the sacrifices you made to protect and serve.
