COLEMAN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released details regarding a fatal two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 377 South near FM 45 that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Brayden Lynn Baldwin of Coleman.

According to the preliminary DPS report, the crash occurred at approximately 2:44 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, near milepost 432. The investigation revealed that a 2024 Freightliner truck tractor, towing a 1993 Monon semi-trailer, was traveling southbound and cresting a grade. Meanwhile, a 2017 GMC pickup truck, driven by Baldwin, was accelerating uphill in wet and rainy conditions.

Baldwin reportedly lost control of the pickup, which veered off the right side of the roadway. In an attempt to regain control, the vehicle skidded across both southbound lanes into the northbound lanes, colliding with the Freightliner. The impact caused the pickup truck to catch fire, and Baldwin was pinned inside, sustaining fatal injuries.

The Texas DPS confirmed that Brayden Lynn Baldwin was pronounced deceased at the scene. Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman is handling arrangements.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the roadway conditions and factors that may have contributed to the accident. DPS has reminded drivers to exercise caution in adverse weather conditions and maintain control while navigating hills, grades, and wet roadways.

This tragedy has left family, friends, and the Coleman community grieving the sudden loss of a young life.

Brayden Lynn Baldwin will be remembered for the joy, energy, and promise he brought to those around him.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
