MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. — The community of Maynardville is mourning the tragic loss of 25-year-old James Bailey, who died in a boating accident Saturday morning in Union County. Bailey, a beloved son, friend, and community member, lost his life when his vessel collided with another near the Highway 33 bridge.

According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), two boats were involved in the collision around 8:30 a.m. One boat carried two people, both of whom were taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. Bailey, who was the sole occupant of the other vessel, was initially missing but later found deceased. His body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy.

The accident marks the 26th fatal boating incident in Tennessee this year, highlighting the dangers that can occur on the state’s waterways. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

James Bailey is remembered by friends and family as a kind, vibrant, and caring young man, whose presence brightened the lives of those around him. His sudden passing has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.
