JACKSONVILLE, Texas — Authorities are actively responding to a critical incident in Jacksonville after a Jacksonville Police Department officer was shot on November 2. The encounter occurred around 4:41 p.m., and the suspect, Bobby Michael Dennis, remains at large.

Police have described Dennis as a black male wearing all black clothing. Residents in the area of Benson Memorial and the 1100 block of Churchill have been urged to remain indoors, lock doors, and stay vigilant, as the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. The Cherokee County mobile alert system has also issued warnings to keep the community informed and safe.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville Police, Jacksonville Fire, and Texas Game Wardens, are on the scene. Additionally, Tyler Police are assisting by blocking intersections and providing support for responding units.

The injured Jacksonville PD officer has been airlifted to a Tyler hospital, though their current condition has not been released. Authorities continue to conduct an active search for Dennis, urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement immediately and not to approach the suspect.

This ongoing situation has prompted heightened caution throughout the community as officials work to ensure the safety of residents and apprehend the armed suspect.
