It is with profound sorrow that we report the tragic passing of 17-year-old Laron Harris of Dochfour, who lost his life in a devastating traffic accident on Belfield Public Road, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D.) on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 2:15 p.m. and involved motor lorry #GRR 6089, owned by a private construction company and driven by a 33-year-old resident of Alberttown, and motorcycle #CG 5938, which Harris was riding with his pillion passenger, Josiah Abrams, whose full details are yet to be confirmed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the motorcycle, traveling at a high speed eastward along the northern driving lane, swerved suddenly to avoid two goats on the roadway. In that critical moment, it collided head-on with the westbound lorry. Both young men sustained severe injuries from the impact. Harris was immediately rushed to Enmore Regional Hospital, where, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead. Abrams was also transported for urgent care and later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital in critical condition.
Police confirmed that the lorry driver tested negative for alcohol, and both vehicles involved have been lodged at the Cove and John Police Station as investigations continue. Harris’ body was taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is pending.
Laron Harris was known to family and friends as a bright, vibrant young man whose life was full of promise. His passing has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. The community mourns alongside his family, and thoughts and prayers are with them during this unimaginable time of grief.
As we remember Laron, let us honor his life, cherish his memory, and offer support to his family and loved ones as they navigate this tragic loss. May he rest in eternal peace.
