The St. Joseph’s Parish Council and Pastoral Team have confirmed the heartbreaking passing of 16-year-old Madeline Thompson, a beloved student of St. Augustine’s College, who tragically lost her life while in Panama.

Madeline, who had only recently celebrated her birthday on September 26, was described as a bright, compassionate, and faith-filled young woman whose presence radiated warmth and kindness. She was a cherished member of the St. Joseph’s Parish family, known for her unwavering dedication to service and her gentle, giving heart.

Every Saturday, Madeline could be found volunteering at the St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen, where she offered her time and compassion to those in need. Her parish family remembers her as someone whose “kind heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to help others reflected the love of Christ in all she did.” Her joyful energy and selfless devotion touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

In a statement, the parish shared their deep sorrow:

“We join her parents, Jerome and Shenique Thompson, her loved ones, and the entire St. Augustine’s College community in mourning this heartbreaking loss. As a parish, we hold them all in our prayers, asking God to surround them with His peace, strength, and consolation during this time of deep sorrow.”

Madeline’s passing has left a profound void in the hearts of her family, friends, classmates, and church community. Yet, even in the midst of grief, her legacy of kindness, faith, and service continues to shine as a reminder of how one young life can embody so much love and grace.

As the community gathers in prayer and remembrance, many take comfort in knowing that Madeline’s light will continue to shine brightly in the lives she touched. Her spirit will be forever remembered — not only for her radiant smile and compassion but for the way she lived her faith through action, humility, and love.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may God’s comforting presence be with all who mourn this unimaginable loss.
