CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of 17-year-old Amari Cooper, a bright and beloved West Charlotte High School student, who was tragically killed at a Halloween party on Old Plank Road in Charlotte, North Carolina, on November 1, 2025.
According to police, a fight broke out during the party, leading to several gunshots being fired. As terrified guests ran for safety, Amari was struck by a stray bullet, an innocent victim caught in the chaos.
Emergency responders arrived at approximately 12:26 a.m. and found Amari suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased despite all efforts to save her life.
Authorities have not confirmed whether Amari had any involvement in a separate altercation that took place at West Charlotte High School on Halloween. That incident, which gained attention after video surfaced showing an officer forcefully restraining a student, remains under investigation.
Amari’s death has devastated her family, friends, and school community. Those who knew her describe Amari as a loving, kind-hearted young woman with a radiant smile and big dreams for her future. Her life, full of potential and promise, was tragically cut short by senseless violence.
As her loved ones mourn this unimaginable loss, they remember Amari for her warmth, spirit, and the joy she brought to everyone around her.
Rest in eternal peace, sweet Amari Cooper — gone far too soon, but forever remembered and loved.
