CHICAGO, Ill. — With broken hearts, family, friends, and community members are mourning the tragic loss of 15-year-old John Thomas, who was senselessly shot and killed on Halloween night, October 31, 2025, in Chicago’s University Village neighborhood.
According to Chicago police, John was riding his bicycle in the 1300 block of West Grenshaw Street when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire, striking him multiple times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite every effort, John sadly passed away from his injuries.
What should have been a night filled with laughter, costumes, and candy turned into a devastating tragedy that has left an entire community heartbroken. A memorial of flowers, balloons, and candles now stands where the young teen’s life was cut short — a painful reminder of how fleeting and precious life truly is.
John was a bright, kind, and spirited young man with his whole future ahead of him. Those who knew him say he had a contagious smile, a big heart, and dreams that reached far beyond his years. He loved riding his bike, spending time with friends, and bringing joy to those around him. His life, though far too short, left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
As his family and friends grieve this unimaginable loss, they hold tightly to the memories of John’s laughter, his energy, and the light he brought to their lives.
May John Thomas’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may justice be served for this innocent young life taken too soon. His memory will live on forever — in the hearts of those who loved him and in the community that refuses to forget him.
