PATERSON, N.J. — A heartbreaking tragedy struck the city of Paterson on Halloween night when a devastating house fire claimed the lives of five family members.
According to officials, firefighters responded to a structure fire at 15 Emerson Avenue shortly after 9:50 p.m. on Friday, October 31. Crews worked tirelessly to stabilize the blaze, but once the flames were extinguished, a grim discovery was made inside the residence.
Authorities confirmed that five victims — a 39-year-old man, a 38-year-old woman, and three children, ages 14, 12, and 7 — were found deceased within the home. Their identities have not yet been released, as investigators continue their work and family members are notified.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with assistance from local and county fire marshals.
The tragic loss has shaken the Paterson community, with neighbors leaving flowers, candles, and notes near the scene in remembrance of the family.
