It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we share the heartbreaking loss of 80-year-old Anita Avers, a beloved mother, neighbor, and friend, whose life was tragically taken in a stabbing at her south Wichita home on Friday morning.

Just before 8 a.m., Wichita Police responded to a home in the 1500 block of East Crowley, near Wassall and Hydraulic, after receiving a report of a possible cutting. When officers arrived, they found Anita’s 47-year-old daughter outside the home with cuts on her hands. Inside, they discovered Anita lying unresponsive in her bed, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite being rushed to St. Francis Hospital, her injuries were too severe, and she was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Authorities later confirmed that Anita’s own daughter has been arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder in connection to her death. The shocking nature of the tragedy has left loved ones and neighbors devastated, struggling to comprehend the pain and loss of such a gentle, kind-hearted woman.

Anita was known for her warmth, compassion, and gentle spirit. To those who knew her, she was more than just a neighbor — she was a source of comfort, a loving presence who greeted everyone with kindness and a smile. Her sudden and violent passing has left a void that can never be filled.

As the Wichita community mourns this senseless loss, friends and family cling to cherished memories of Anita’s grace and generosity. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her loved ones find comfort in the love and prayers surrounding them during this unimaginably difficult time.

Rest in peace, dear Anita. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
