PHOENIX, Ariz. — With heavy hearts, the Phoenix community is mourning the loss of 84-year-old Edward Pickles, who tragically died Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in north Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the heartbreaking incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on October 30 near 32nd Street and Bell Road. Authorities say Mr. Pickles was crossing mid-block along 32nd Street when an oncoming vehicle struck him.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, Mr. Pickles later passed away from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police say impairment is not suspected to have played a role in the crash. The Accident Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

News of Mr. Pickles’ passing has deeply saddened the north Phoenix community. Neighbors remember him as a kind and gentle man who enjoyed taking evening walks and greeting those he met with a smile.

“This is just heartbreaking,” one resident shared. “He was always so friendly — everyone knew who he was. It’s hard to believe he’s gone.”

Authorities are reminding drivers and pedestrians alike to stay alert and cautious, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility can be limited.
