FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville community is grieving the tragic loss of 22-year-old Trenton Wayne Thompson, who was killed in a heartbreaking motorcycle crash on Wednesday evening, October 29, 2025, along Gillespie Street near Southern Avenue, close to the NCDOT Transportation Office.

According to Fayetteville Police, the crash occurred around 5:51 p.m. when Trenton was traveling south on his black 2014 Yamaha motorcycle. At the same time, a gray 2015 Chevy Equinox, driven by 43-year-old Hector Elias-Burgos, attempted to make a left turn onto Southern Avenue. The two vehicles collided violently, sending Trenton and his motorcycle crashing to the pavement.

The impact caused the Equinox to spin into a red 2005 GMC Envoy driven by 65-year-old Larry Wayne Barber, who had been waiting to turn at the intersection.

Emergency crews arrived quickly and transported Trenton to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where—despite all life-saving efforts—he tragically succumbed to his injuries. His family and friends are left shattered, describing him as a loving son, a loyal friend, and a young man full of life and dreams for the future.

Elias-Burgos and his passenger, 35-year-old Edwin Colon, were both treated for minor injuries. Barber was unharmed. All drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police say the crash remains under active investigation and urge anyone with information to contact Detective Deal at 910-584-3692 or Crime Stoppers.

Tonight, Fayetteville mourns the loss of Trenton Wayne Thompson a life taken far too soon, leaving behind memories of laughter, love, and the painful reminder of how fragile life truly is.
