WAIANAE, Hawaiʻi — The tight-knit community of Waianae is heartbroken following the tragic death of 19-year-old Tehya Mahelona, who was fatally struck in a multi-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in Nanakuli.

According to the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office, the deadly incident happened around 4:50 a.m. on October 28, near Pua Avenue. Police say Tehya was walking in a marked crosswalk when a driver struck her and another pedestrian. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, she later succumbed to her injuries. Two other people injured in the crash remain in serious condition.
